Sonic Ferment
Sound Art – Cooking Performance / Installation by Tim Morris Schiffer and Stefan Koutzev
As our non-human allies, microbes transform matter, intertwining microbiological life with our human bodies. They overlap, intervene and dissolve within the depths of fermentation processes. Sonic Ferment presents manipulated live sounds from the preparation of millet for the Balkan beverage boza and cabbage for the German staple sauerkraut, both fermented in handmade clay pots. An invitation to listen, taste, and observe the continuous sonic playback and fermentation of two distant foods throughout the exhibition, accompanied by daily tastings and open workshop discussions.
