Stefan Koutzev is a Bulgarian
filmmaker working and living in
Cologne, Germany. He’s focuses
on narrative storytelling at the
intersection of screenwriting,
fiction and documentary practices,
as well as realising experimental films.
His shorts Restbestand (2025),
Hauspausen (2024)
and Schwärmen (2020)
screened at international festivals
such as Rencontres Internationales
Paris/Berlin, DOK Leipzig, Beijing
International Short Film Festival,
Stockholm Film Festival and more.
Why hasn’t everything disappeared yet
marks his debut fiction feature at the
International Film Festival Rotterdam.
His second feature Schweres Licht
is currently in development.
